10 weeks!

Hi! It’s hard to believe that we’re almost at the end of week 10 of lockdown! The weeks are flying by, and its June on Monday!!

I think I’m starting to get used to what is going to have to be the new normal of having to work around my children’s home education. I’ve plenty of experience of this, as my daughter was previously home educated for three years, before starting 6th form last September, but I won’t pretend that going back to “outsourcing” education to a school for a few months made running a business a little easier! Although, there’s now no uniforms to wash or packed lunches to get ready for 8am every day, so its all swings and roundabouts.

I feel very lucky that I’ve been able to continue to work (albeit part time) over the last few weeks. I’ve sold lots of my sample rings via the fantastic #artistsupportpledge initiative and have even had a few extra commissions from couples wanting to mark their “would have been” wedding day with a set of temporary rings. My main metal supplier and the assay office closed for a few weeks, but they’re both open again now, so it just means that any new commissions will take a little longer than normal. I think we’re all getting used to “everything” just being a bit slower than it used to be though.

So, as we all start to think about things re-opening, I’m really hoping that we can hang onto this slightly slower pace of life and make it a new normal. Perhaps having to make appointments or queue to get into shops will make us all think “do I really need to buy this today?” I’ve also noticed lots more people cycling, and I know not everyone will be able cycle to work, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if just a few more started to, and if that made all the local councils put in loads more cycle lanes? If anyone from the Forest Of Dean happens to be reading this, then a cycle route along the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney would be absolutely fantastic please! 😉 🚴‍♀️
